Petition to the European Parliament and African leaders
We, the undersigned, ask the leaders of African countries to make a commitment
to the elimination of the illegal and unsustainable commercial hunting
and trade of great apes, elephants and other threatened wildlife species
in their countries through their personal leadership.
We ask African leaders to ensure that wildlife protection laws are enforced
and that wildlife resources are used sustainably for future generations.
We ask that our representatives in government (both national and European
Union) to use their offices to ensure that leaders of African countries
are strongly encouraged and supported in their efforts to eliminate the
illegal bushmeat trade. We ask that no aid is directed to projects that
will assist, directly or indirectly, the illegal sector of the commercial
bushmeat trade, and that aid is made available for the enforcement of
wildlife laws and the sustainable management of wildlife resources.
